Hello everyone, this week we visited the art gallery again.
The
title of the exhibit is We the People. The theme of We the People is the usage
of art to feel what it means to be a citizen of the 21st century.
The type of lighting used was bright. There were a lot of source of light coming
from everywhere.
The colors used on the walls were a little dark than the
color used on the artwork.
Some of the resources used in the inner building of the
space include realistic metallic cookware and bright lighting
The movement of the viewer through the gallery space is
open. The viewers are allowed to go freely, walk anywhere in the exhibition.
The artworks I believe were organized and neat. They were in
one section.
The artworks are similar because each of them incorporates
an element of how we are all connected to each other.
The artworks are different because they both have completely
different settings. They also have different interpretations and meanings to
them.
The artworks in these particular pieces are not framed
because they are either on the floor or on the wall as a sculpture.
The artworks are identified and label the same as the rest
of the artwork in the museum beside the one on the floor; I was not able to
find the label.
The artwork is spaced far apart from each other.
Art 1
Art 1: Subodh Gupta's This is not a fountain, 2011–13, in We
the People: New Art from the Collection. This artwork is fascinating in every
way. Its key concept is to show how people are related to each other, in this
case; through food and the objects used to cook the food. Gupta collected these
pots and pans from his family in India in replacement for the new ones. it was
amazing how he collected all of them to show the relation between them all
using the right concept. It is not the “ideal” artwork you would normally see
in a gallery. In this art, element of value is used which shows the lightness and darkness.
Art 2
Art 2: Sopheap Pich (Cambodian, born 1971). Cycle, 2011. Bamboo,
wire, and glue. This artwork truly is amazing. The artist used bamboo, rattan, burlap from rice bags to show connection between the mother nature and the people. The art was created to show the daily interaction between the landscape and the residents who lives around it. Sopheap Pich once had to flee the country due to the war but now he is back to his land. The art interprets the ability to fight all the obstacle that come around. In this art, the principle of proportion and balance is used.
Art 3
Art 3: Hank Willis Thomas, We The People, 2015 decommissioned prison uniforms mounted on Sintra. There is not a lot of information on this piece but this art really is interesting.. The element of line is used in this art. When i was looking at this art, it did not look like an prison's uniform to me, i had to read the title of the artwork. It is made out of many uniform. This artwork is upsetting because it is pieces of clothes that many people once wore and to be looking at that is very disappointing. This artwork interpret the lost lives.
Visiting the gallery again was okay. I did not know what i was looking at in the beginning but as i started walking around, i figured it out. It was different looking at theme and architecture of the building because usually when i visit an art gallery, i only look at the artworks framed on the wall.
