Masks

Hello Everyone. This week, we did some research on different kinds of masks and we used that to create our own mask.

Mask #1

Mask #2

Mask #3

I selected these pieces because they are very unique looking masks to me. Mask #1, with the colorful texture expresses very human nature features. Its very colorful and contains different shapes that is why I decided to use this mask to create mine. I chose mask 2 because it is very simple and it also has different shapes and colors. This mask tells a story as half of the face is covered in gold with variety of colors while the other half is plain. It somehow implies that half the face is hidden for a reason. I chose mask 3 because of all the colors and the appearance of the mask.

I chose concepts from all three of the masks to inspire my final project.

Mask 1: Very humanistic mask with real life features, it comes across as a confused human features.  It is very unique and real. It shows a person who is confused with frightening expression on the mask.  I decided to choose this mask because it inspired me to use emotion and color in my mask.

Mask 2: There are not a lot of colors present but the colors chosen allows the mask facial features to stand out. This mask is used to show how the artist can tell story of a person wearing a mask without revealing whats hidden. You are still able to see past the colors and view the features. I used this mask because I wanted to create something simple that tells a story.

Mask 3: An extremely vibrant colored mask that shows creativity. It is something that looks closely to an colored sun with a very human like expressions.  I liked this mask because of the colors and there wasn't just one area to focus in on but, many.

My Mask

I used a cardboard to create my mask to emphasize the texture. I used a lot of color when creating this mask because I wanted to make it very simple yet colorful.
I also chose to use white color in the mouth to emphasize the person’s smile.  Moreover, I used pattern of shapes to make it mysterious as no one knows what’s behind those shape.

I thought the finished product of my mask turned out really cool. I didn't really know what to expect because we had no limitations. Reviewing different masks helped to put my own mask into perspective. It was exciting to create my mask.
