Hello everyone
This week, we watched three videos.
The key concepts that I learned from watching “The Lowdown
on Lowbrow: West Coast Pop Art” are that art historians refer to it as pop
surrealism and practitioners call it Lowbrow. I also learnt that no one else
knows how to categorize art.
The key concepts I learned from watching “Tate Modern” Is that
Tate curators developed a new method utilizing theme-based museums. I also
learnt that work of art was categorized and displayed white walls.
The key concept I learned from watching “An Acquiring Mind:
Philippe de Montebello and the Metropolitan” is that Phillipe de Montebello
served for 31 years as director of the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
The Lowbrow video doesn’t relate to my exhibition because
all of my works of art chosen for the theme have a well-defined category. The
Tate approach did relate to my exhibition because it the method and the idea of
curator both utilize a theme-based approach. Phillip de Montebello and the Metropolitan
related to my art project because de Montebello carefully chooses works of art
like I did for my exhibit.
The films were very interesting and added much depth to my
understanding of the museums. I have a better understanding of process placing
artifacts in a museum.
